Expanded Focus on Produce

September 11, 2013, Birko,

Hello friends and colleagues, I am very excited to announce that I recently joined the team at Birko as director of business development and food safety for produce. My new role will be to help Birko continue to expand its food safety expertise in the produce sector. This will involve letting fruit and vegetable producers know about Birko’s antimicrobial interventions and how they can be used to reduce pathogens from the manufacturing process of food. Birko also manufactures concentrated chemical formulations for CIP and sanitation, and has state-of-the-art chemical dispensing equipment.

I will continue to serve on several produce industry committees with many of you including the United Fresh Produce Association’s food safety and technology council and the Produce Marketing Association’s produce safety, science and technology committee.

As another way to stay in touch, please subscribe to our new Produce Safety Dispatch, a free quarterly newsletter for the produce industry. In this newsletter, Birko and other industry experts share insights on fighting pathogens as well as industry trends and research. You can subscribe here.

Please come say hello and visit with me at some of the following upcoming industry events that I will be attending on behalf of Birko:

And, Birko is a sponsor of the Science and Technology Reception at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit in New Orleans. Please visit us at the reception on the convention center floor, Saturday, Oct. 19, from 5:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I look forward to continuing to work with those of you I have worked with in the past, as well as meeting new clients and becoming your partner in food safety. My new contact info is (303) 501-5678 cell, or (561) 790-3804 office. You can email me at  ibessell@birkocorp.com. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance in any way!

With the heightened demands for food safety and traceability on fresh produce, Birko’s unique solutions such as antimicrobial intervention being used to reduce pathogens could not come at a better time. Thank you.

Hello Ian,

I have developed, promoted and now market an award-winning natural antimicrobial known by two names: Herbal-Active and also as Fresher4Longer natural food rinse.

It is made from extracts from culinary herbs and spices and is classed as a functional flavor in the same way as hops or caramel (both are antimicrobial to a degree).

I am looking for distributors for my product and Birko appear to deal in the same market segment.

If I can get an email for you I will send more information.
