Blit-Zen Holiday Spiced Ale

For many years now, I’ve been brewing a spiced Holiday Ale I call “Blit-Zen”. Why Blit-Zen? It is because of the kind of herbal teas that is added at the end of the boil to flavor the beer. The beer itself is nothing more than a fairly potent American-Style Amber Ale that is not overly hopped, which then has the following Celestial Seasoning Teas added after the boil is complete (for a 5 gallon bach):

  • 3 bags Cinnamon Apple Spice
  • 3 bags Bengal Spice
  • 3 bags Mandarin Orange Spice

The tea is allowed to sit in the hot wort for a few minutes, and then fished out before the wort is transferred to the awaiting 5 gallon glass carboy. Blit-Zen is a beer that is inexpensive to make and ages extremely well over time. Unfortunately, I did not get time to brew Blit-Zen this fall, but I have the 2013 and 2014 batches still remaining in my cellar in the basement and they taste wonderful. Give this one a try some time, I think you will like it!
